Copenhagen is an old city – more than 1000 years old.

The town was founded about 700 A.C. with a harbour and an market square and surrounded by a fortress of wood planks.

Officially Copenhagen was founded 1167 by bishop Absalon, who ruled the city from his residential town Roskilde and its Cathedral 50 km west of Copenhagen.

He builded “Absalons Castle” on a small island between island Amager and main land Sealand. The castle was demolished by the Hanseatic League in 1369. The ruins of this Castle under Christiansborg Palace is open for the public.

Copenhagen Castle (about 1387 – 1731):
Built on the ruins of demolished Absalon Castle in 1371 and still owened by Bishop of Roskilde. In 1417 King Erik 7 of Pommern occupied the castle as his property and has since been the castle for the danish kings. Rebuild several times by King Christian 4 (1588-1648) and King Frederik 4 (1699-1730).

In all urban areas of Copenhagen City you can experience  the history and all the beautiful historical buildings, squares, parks, canals and Copenhagen Inner Harbour with the old Naval Base “Holmen” founded 1680 on Christianshavn.

Visitors, tourists and inhabitants in Copenhagen enjoy to play, talk, relax and eat on all the old open urban areas of the city.

At midday 6. june 2016 I walked all over Copenhagen City to experience this atmosphere of peace, love, joy and comfort.

Here is my photo story:
