On christmas day 24 december 2017 I drove from my home in North Sealand 60 km south to Christianshavn, Copenhagen.

I have an appointment with friends to celebrate christmas eve together with more than 1000 people in Grey Hall in Freetown Christiania.

At 4 PM I went to Our Saviour Church to be a part of the christmas service together with more than 500 people. Our Saviour Church was built 1682-96 and is neighbour to Freetown Christiania:

Luke 2,11-14:

– Today in town of David a Saviour has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.

Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,

” Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests. “

My favourite and most loving christmas song is “O holy night the stars are brightly shining”,

Poem by Placide Cappeau and composed by Adolphe Adam 1847, original title “Cantique de Noel”.

Translated into English lyrics by John Sullivan Dwight in 1855.

You can listen to the song performed by excellent artists on youtube, click: youtube.com

O Holy Night

text lyric

O holy night, the stars are brightly shining,

It is the night of the dear Saviour’s birth;

Long lay the world in sin and error pining,

‘Till he appeared and the soul felt its worth.

A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices,

For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn;

Chorus

Fall on your knees, Oh hear the angel voices!

O night divine! O night when Christ was born.

O night, O holy night, O night divine.

Led by the light of Faith serenely beaming;

With glowing hearts by his cradle we stand:

So, led by light of a star sweetly gleaming,

Here come the wise men from Orient land,

The King of Kings lay thus in lowly manger,

In all our trials born to be our friend;

Chorus

He knows our need, To our weakness no stranger!

Behold your King! Before Him lowly bend!

Behold your King! your King! before him bend!

Truly He taught us to love one another;

His law is Love and His gospel is Peace;

Chains shall he break, for the slave is our brother,

And in his name all oppression shall cease,

Sweet hymns of joy in grateful Chorus raise we;

Let all within us praise his Holy name!

Chorus

Christ is the Lord, then ever! ever praise we!

His pow’r and glory, evermore proclaim!

His pow’r and glory, evermore proclaim!
